Huntingdon women's lacrosse stumbles at Greensboro

The Huntingdon women’s lacrosse team fell behind in the first half and couldn’t recover in an 11-7 loss to Greensboro on Wednesday.
 
The first-year Lady Hawks (6-5) gave up three goals in the first five minutes of the game, but only trailed 3-2 with nine minutes left in the first half. Greensboro answered with four goals in the final nine minutes to take a 7-2 lead at halftime.
 
Huntingdon scored five goals in the second half but couldn’t overtake the Pride (5-8).
 
Shannen O’Leary led Huntingdon with three goals, one assist and five draw controls. Jamie Reschke added two goals, Jen Price had one goal, three assists and five draw controls, Kalyn Spatol scored one goal and Katie McLean finished with one assist.
 
Goalie Alexis McDonald recorded 13 saves.
 
Huntingdon hosts Birmingham-Southern on Saturday at noon.

Farrar's relief work leads Warhawks to victory in series final

The No. 18 Auburn Montgomery baseball team scored 14 times, but it was sophomore Daniel Farrar’s 5 2/3 innings of scoreless relief that kept the team in the game, as the Warhawks picked up a 14-8 victory over Mobile in the series finale of the three-game series between the two squads.

With the win, the Warhawks improved to 19-14 on the season and 6-9 in league play. The Rams fell to 21-10 overall and 9-6 in Southern States Athletic Conference play.

“Today our guys showed that they could be a winner if they really wanted to,” head coach Q.V. Lowe said. “Their battles at the plate were much better and Farrar did a great job of coming in and stopping the bleeding. His efforts really gave us a chance to win the ball game.”

Farrar threw 107 pitches to complete the final 5 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and one unearned run, while striking out eight.

“I knew I needed to come in with a lot of intensity and throw a lot of strikes,” Farrar said.

Huntingdon men's lacrosse sets new program record for wins in a season

The Huntingdon men’s lacrosse team took a six-goal lead in the first half and knocked off Alma College 10-1 on Monday.
 
The one goal allowed is a record for the second-year Huntingdon program. In 26 games the past two seasons, Huntingdon’s previous best was four goals allowed. In 11 games this season, Huntingdon has held opponents to single-digit scoring six times and to five goals or less in three games.
 
Monday’s win was the sixth of the season for the Hawks (6-5), breaking last year’s mark of five wins in 15 games.
 
Mike Kazmarik scored five goals to lead Huntingdon and Gavin Carey and Jakob Works each scored two goals and had one assist. Works also had five ground balls. Works, who has 32 goals this season, broke the Hawks’ previous record for goals in a season during Huntingdon’s last game.
 
Brandon Sewell added one goal, three assists, eight ground balls and won 7-of-12 faceoffs against Alma.

Warhawks drop SSAC doubleheader to Mobile

The No. 18 Auburn Montgomery baseball team dropped the opening two games of its Southern States Athletic Conference series against the University of Mobile on Sunday, falling 5-1 in the opener and 14-3 in seven innings of the second game.

With the loss, the Warhawks fell to 18-14 on the season and 5-9 in league play. The Rams improved to 21-9 overall and 9-5 in conference games.

In the opener, Bryan Young paced the offense with two hits, including a RBI single in the second inning. The run-scoring hit gave the Warhawks a 1-0 lead against Mobile starter Ryan Hines (3-1). Hines allowed just the one run and struck out seven in five innings of work.

The Rams took control of the game with five runs in the final three innings, as a pair of AUM errors led to three unearned runs. Tied 1-1 heading to the sixth inning, Mobile took the lead for good when Ryan Parazine scored on a wild pitch.

20th ranked Hawks split with two-time defending national champion Marietta

The Huntingdon baseball team scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to win Game 1 on Saturday and two-time defending national champion Marietta took Game 2.
 
Huntingdon, ranked 20th by the American Baseball Coaches Association, won the first game 6-5. Marietta, ranked sixth by the ABCA and fourth by D3baseball.com, won the second game 9-2
 
The loss in Game 2 snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Hawks. During that stretch, Huntingdon (16-6) picked up four wins against nationally ranked opponents.
 
In Game 1 on Saturday, the Hawks trailed 5-4 entering the ninth. A Tyler Blackwell single scored Trey Smith to tie the game and Austin White singled in Blackwell for the game-winning run.
 
White finished the game 3-for-5 with a RBI and a run and Blackwell was 2-for-5 with a RBI and two runs.

Huntingdon women's lacrosse edges Meredith in double OT

Huntingdon tied the game in the final seconds of regulation and scored in the final seconds of double overtime to beat Meredith 13-12 on Saturday.
 
Meredith took a one-goal lead with 29 seconds left in the second half before Shannen O’Leary scored on an assist from Kalyn Spatol with one second left to tie the game 12-12.
 
Huntingdon goalie Alexis McDonald made a save on the only shot taken in the first overtime.  In the second overtime, O’Leary caused a turnover with 17 seconds left and Jamie Reschke scored the winning goal on an assist from O’Leary with five seconds remaining.
 
With the win, the first-year Huntingdon women’s lacrosse team improved its record to 5-4.
 
O’Leary finished with five goals, two assists and seven draw controls, Reschke added four goals and caused three turnovers and Briana Gress scored two goals and had one assist.
