PCA celebrates successful Red Ribbon Week

PCA celebrates successful Red Ribbon Week

Prattville Christian Academy hosted a very successful 2011 October Red Ribbon Week again!  The theme this year was “We have better things to do than drugs!”  During  the Red Ribbon Week of Oct 24-28, PCA staff and students raised money through various participation themes in an effort to give back to the community while remembering to stay away from drugs. Each charity  was the theme of the day during the week, and the students enjoyed wearing  special hats, dressing in  pink clothing, and dressing like his or her “twin” to raise money for the respective organizations. PCA students raised  $765.70 for the Special Olympics  (see attached picture), $939.92 and needed items for the local Humane Society, $1,189.90 for Children’s Hospital,  $1,186.57 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and   $942.10 for the Red Cross. The total amount of donations raised by the students was $5,024.19!

Team Orange Wins Four Straight to Capture Warhawk World Series Crown

Team Orange Wins Four Straight to Capture Warhawk World Series Crown

After dropping the opening game of the series, Team Orange rallied to win four straight games and take the Warhawk World Series crown, as the Auburn University at Montgomery wrapped up its fall season in preparation for the upcoming 2012 season.

The Warhawk World Series was a best-of-seven series, pitting Team Orange coached by Graduate Assistant Clay Booth and Team Black coached by Associate Head Coach Marty Lovrich.

“Team Orange was really able to get the big hits and make key defensive stops when they needed it,” Lovrich said. “Team Black made some careless mistakes and self-destructed in some key situations. Each team as able to use a lot of pitchers and the games stayed close, so we learned a good bit about our pitching staff. Overall, it was a good learning tool heading into the season.”

Black took an early advantage in the series, taking the opening by a score of 2-0.

Huntingdon gets back on track with win over Webber International

Huntingdon gets back on track with win over Webber International

There was only one acceptable outcome for the Huntingdon football team on Saturday.

Coming off a disappointing loss to nationally-ranked Trinity University last week, the Hawks needed to bounce back with a win against Webber International University. The Hawks scored four first-half touchdowns and sealed the game with two fourth-quarter touchdowns to knock off Webber 42-28 at Samford Stadium.

“It was very important for us to come out and get the win today,” said junior defensive lineman D.J. Chappell, who had five tackles, two sacks and three tackles for loss in the game.
