Realty co. says new shopping center coming to Prattville

PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - A national real estate development corporation based in Tennessee says it will soon bring a new shopping center to Prattville, locating the project just off Interstate 65 on Cobbs Ford Road.

GBT Realty Corporation is promising to bring businesses like Starbucks, Aspen Dental, and Firehouse Subs to the plan it is calling "Cobbs Ford Village".

Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie says the company's plans are very preliminary and he could not provide any specifics. Gillespie said no plans have come across his desk as mayor and he hasn't dealt with it in his role on the city's planning commission.

Prattville's High Point shopping center goes on auction block

PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - Sold! A major shopping center in the city of Prattville went on the auction block on the steps of the Elmore County Courthouse Thursday. The event lasted just 10 minutes, but didn't end like many would expect.

The financially struggling High Point shopping center, which hasn't filled most of its rental space since opening in 2007, went for $33.8 million to the highest bidder Thursday.

High Point II defaulted on the mortgage, and the propery fell into foreclosure. That prompted Thursday's auction. The city of Prattville has invested more than $15 million in the property.

The foreclosure auction saw approximately one dozen bidders for the property, but the event was a formality of sorts.
