Prattville dealing with rise in police impersonators

The badge on the left is real. The badge on the right, taken from the latest impersonator, is fake.

PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA)- Katie Elam's is all of 18-years old, a Prattville native and can't recall a time when Autauga County has seen a rash of police wanna-bes.

As an employee with Fox's Pizza Den in Prattville, Elam finds the police impersonator idea not so appetizing.

"I do worry about myself, my friends and my sister," said Elam.

These are the facts as of now.

The last two police impersonators were caught at Target on Legends Parkway in Prattville. The first impersonator who pulled over a motorist on Interstate 65 South and again in the city of Prattville in February has yet to be captured.

ANDALUSIA, Ala. – Liberty Mutual Insurance, PowerSouth’s workers’ compensation, auto and general liability insurance provider, has recognized the company for another remarkable year of safety in 2012. PowerSouth as a whole achieved a full calendar year with no lost-time accidents – over 1.2 million hours worked safely by more than 500 employees.

PowerSouth continues to set the bar for safety standards in the electric generation and transmission industry. The company’s overall DART (Days Away/Restricted or Transfer) Rate is currently 0.33.  The rate reflects the number of recordable injuries and illnesses per 100 full-time employees that resulted in days away from work, restricted work activity and/or job transfer in any given timeframe. As such, the company received Liberty Mutual’s Silver Safety Award.

Local runners react to Boston Marathon explosions

John Twitty of Andalusia, in the red shirt, at mile 16 of the marathon

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA)- 111 runners from Alabama ran in the Boston Marathon, and all of those from Central and South Alabama are safe.

Dr. John Barganier had finished the 26.2 mile run an hour before the blasts. His hotel, the Lenox was directly across the street from the finish line of the marathon.

"We heard it and we ran outside and we unfortunately saw people laying in the street and some other images that aren't real pleasant to see," he said.

John Twitty, from Andalusia, had finished the race just two minutes before the first blast.

"I was possibly a block further down from the finish, because you're quickly ushered to keep on walking across the finish line," Twitty said.  "We were just there, but it didn't take a little less for a minute for the police and everyone else involved to send us back up the street."

Second police impersonator arrested at the Prattville Target store

The Prattville Police Department has arrested a second person for
impersonating a police officer at the Prattville Target location. Though this
is the second police impersonation suspect arrested at the Prattville Target,
police say this is not the same person conducting traffic stops in a white
Crown Victoria.

Authorities say 25-year-old Caleb Williams Phillips of Deatsville was
arrested Monday morning at the Target location on Legends Parkway.

Phillips was observed inside the store wearing a ballistic vest on the
outside of his shirt by store security. He was also reportedly wearing a
holster with a BB gun on it and was in possession of an Autauga County
Sheriff's Department badge on his belt.

We often have school groups come to the shelter and want to thank the great students from Prattville Christian Academy 7th Grade and Macon-East Montgomery Academy who came out last week to help bathe and exercise dogs, give love to kitties and just generally lend us a hand.   Our pets were very happy with all of the attention they received and we thoroughly enjoyed having such great young people with us for a while.
