Director

There is only three weeks left for us to take back the lead and win $1000 for our animals, so asking everyone to click daily in The Animal Rescue Site “Shelter Challenge” and recruit your friends, family and coworkers to do the same for us. No ‘signing-up’ required and takes about 20-30 seconds at most - just go to www.theanimalrescuesite.com and then go to “The Shelter Challenge” tab on the right side of the page where you can type in our name or the city of Wetumpka to find us. And hint, hint – you can vote via any computer (home, work, school), on your smart phone and also via different web browsers on your computers! It will take some effort to take back the lead but with your help we can do it – thanks everyone for helping!

Santa Pet Photos at the area PETsMART’s start this weekend and we always need a lot of volunteers to take the photos, help with pets and help with adoptions. We will be at the Prattville PETsMART this weekend (1 & 2 Dec) and the Montgomery PETsMART on 15 & 16 December from 11 am – 4 pm each day. If you can find a few hours to volunteer as a Santa (we have the suits), a photographer, pet helper or adoption helper please contact our volunteer coordinator, Charline, at 334-202-1381 or popecharlie58@yahoo.com.

Perhaps you are thinking of adding a new pet to your own family this Christmas? We think that is a grand idea, but also want you to start planning for it right now as a new pet is a big undertaking that should be well planned out. Getting a pet should not be a spur of the moment or last minute decision (we will only do ‘pick-ups’ on 24 Dec until noon; no walk-in adoptions) since it will be a 10-15 or even 20 year commitment. And while we hope we have that perfect pet for you, we might not on the one day you stop by to look. Since individual dogs and cats have their own unique characteristics and personalities it is important to meet and spend a bit of time together to see if there is a connection and that can sometimes take a few visits before you find ‘the’ one.

Perhaps you are thinking of getting a pet for a friend or relative. A pet is a very personal choice and the pet you may gravitate towards may not be the one your friend or relative would like if they were picking for themselves. We feel strongly that any person must first meet the pet they are thinking of adopting therefore we do not adopt pets as gifts. BUT, we do have an alternative and that is for the gift giver to pay for the adoption and get a gift certificate for the recipient. We think a great idea is for you to package their gift certificate with basic pet supplies like a bed, bowls or toys to complete the surprise. This way they can enjoy the busy holidays while also starting the search for their new best friend. You can put our business card in the present as well so they will have our website (www.elmorehumane.org) or they can even check out our Facebook page to see all our great pets looking for homes. For any questions contact the shelter at 334-567-3377 or email us at hselco@bellsouth.net.
