ELMORE CO., AL (WSFA) - Central Alabama CrimeStoppers is asking for help in locating 54-year-old Winston Lucas.

Lucas is wanted out of Elmore County on charges of sexual abuse of a child less than 12, violation of the community notification act and failure to register as a sex offender.

Lucas is a black male, approximately 5'8", 160 lbs.

Prattville man sentenced for improperly storing and disposing of hazardous waste

Montgomery, Alabama – Arville “Buddy” Thomas, 71, formally of Prattville, Alabama was sentenced to three years’ probation for storing and disposing of hazardous waste at his former company in Prattville, Alabama, without a permit, announced U.S. Attorney George L. Beck, Jr.  Thomas previously owned Deep South Plating, Inc. in Prattville.  Deep South Plating was a metal plating company that used heavy metals in liquid form.  These liquid metals created hazardous byproducts, including copper cyanide, nickel cyanide and sulfuric acid.  These and other hazardous byproducts were improperly stored in open vats and unsecured metal drums on the property.  Thomas abandoned the company in 2008 and moved to Tennessee.  When federal agents located Thomas in Tennessee, he admitted that the hazardous materials at Deep South Plating were improperly handled and stored before he abandoned his company.

Prattville Boys and Girls Club burglarized

PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - The Prattville Police Department is searching for suspects after someone broke into the local Boys and Girls Club location.

The club on Jensen Road in Prattville was broken in to sometime between close of business Wednesday and opening on Thursday. Prattville Police Chief Tim Huggins says whoever it was got in through a back window. And while nothing was stolen, things were "torn up."

Huggins says once this suspect is caught they will face burglary and criminal mischief charges.

Authorities search for suspect in attempted carjacking

AUTAUGA COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - Authorities are searching for a suspect after a man says someone held him at knife point and attempted to steal his truck.

The Autauga County Sheriff's Office says a man hitched a ride with a pick-up truck driver in Prattville around 11:30 a.m. Monday. Once the truck was in the middle of a rural area just south of Posey's Crossroads, the hitchhiker pulled out a knife and attempted to steal the pick-up truck.

The driver of the truck turned the vehicle around. This spooked the suspect who turned and ran.

Authorities searched the area with Kilby K-9 officers as well as other law enforcement agencies, but they were not able to locate the suspect.

The Autauga County Sheriff's Office says no one was injured during this incident. Authorities are still working to develop leads in this case.

Man sentenced for fatal 2010 Lake Martin accident

LAKE MARTIN, AL (WSFA) - A Montgomery man heard his sentence today for his part in a homicide by vessel that killed a woman in Lake Martin over the 2010 Labor Day Weekend.

An Elmore County Judge sentenced Brian Alan Little to five years in prison for the death of 26-year-old Ashley Anne Williams.

An official with the Elmore County District Attorney's office told WSFA 12 News reporter Bryan Henry that Little will ultimately only serve one year of his sentence in jail with three years probation.

Williams was killed after she fell off of a pontoon boat and was then run over by that same boat on Lake Martin during the 2010 Labor Day weekend. Little, the driver of the boat, swam ashore and fled the scene after the accident. Authorities said alcohol was a factor in that accident.

Wetumpka youth minister to be sentenced for sex crimes in Elmore County

MONTGOMERY, AL - Attorney General Luther Strange announced that a youth minister facing charges in Madison and Cullman counties for sex crimes against children is due to be sentenced on July 31 for similar crimes of  which he has been convicted in Elmore County.

John A. Astorga was found guilty on April 11 by a jury in Elmore County Circuit Court for two counts of first-degree sexual abuse. During the trial, evidence that was presented by the Attorney General’s Office that included the testimony of three separate victims as well as the pastor of Bethel Assembly of God in Wetumpka where Astorga had been employed.

At his July 31 sentencing, Astorga will face a penalty of one year and one day to ten years imprisonment for each of the two counts, which are class C felonies.

Prattville man arrested following Montgomery hostage incident

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A Prattville man is being held at the Montgomery County Detention Facility following an early-morning hostage situation off of Lower Wetumpka Road.

According to the Montgomery Police Department, 40-year-old David Spigner has been charged with second-degree kidnapping and two counts of menacing following an incident with his estranged wife.

Police say Spigner entered a business in the 3800 block of Lower Wetumpka Road where his estranged wife is employed around 7:40 a.m. Spigner was armed.

Spigner allowed other employees of the business to leave, but refused to allow his wife to exit the premises.

Police negotiators responded to the scene and negotiated Spigner's surrender. He exited the building at 8:58 a.m. with his hands in the air and was taken into custody unharmed.
