Man murdered in Prattville identified

PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - Authorities have identified a man who was found dead following an overnight shooting in Prattville. The victim is identified as Lamarcus Dejuan Ramsey, 20, of Prattville. 

Police responded to a report of gunshots at MLK, Jr. Drive and Wilberforce Avenue at around 9:40 p.m Thursday. When they arrived on the scene, officers discovered Ramsey inside of a vehicle.

PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - The former Montgomery Fire Fighter and Elmore County youth sports coach that pleaded guilty to electronic solicitation of a child back in November has been sentenced to a 96 month split sentence.

Authorities say John Montague will serve six months behind bars followed by 36 months of supervised probation. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Montague pleaded guilty this morning to two counts of electronic solicitation. Montague originally turned himself in to the Elmore County Sheriff's Office back in October of 2011 after he was charged with harassment in Elmore County for allegedly kissing a 13-year-old girl and sending her inappropriate text messages. Montague was charged with two counts of electronic solicitation in Autauga County a month later.

Elmore Co. man pleads guilty to making child porn

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A 25-year-old Elmore County man pleaded guilty Monday to production of child pornography. Joshua Ray Parton is said to have coerced a young boy into sexually explicit conduct, said U.S. Attorney George L. Beck, Jr. Parton then used his cell phone camera to video his molestation of the child. 

The incident started around May 1, 2011.

Parton faces no less than 15 years and as much as 40 years in federal prison, based on his guilty plea, and could be ordered to spend the rest of his life on supervised release, Beck's office confirmed. 

“Children are to be treasured not molested and abused,” Beck said.

Authorities asking for help in locating a Prattville "quick-change artist"

PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - Central Alabama CrimeStoppers is asking for the public's help to identify a "quick-change" or "flim flam" artist in Prattville.

Authorities say the black male entered the Prattville Walmart and used a $100 bill to purchase plates and cups. The suspect talked to the clerk into confusion over the exchange of cash and ended up with as much as $600 as change in return.

CrimeStoppers says this subject has also been active in the Montgomery area - he recently used the same trick at the Chantilly Walmart.

Police say this is not an uncommon scam. The suspect is versed in procedure used by cashiers and cam turn that procedure against them.

Central Alabama CrimeStoppers asks that all retail locations be wary of this scam and be on the look out for this man and possible companions using this scam in the river region.

Autauga County man pleads guilty to $6.2 Million theft from USDA

Montgomery, Alabama –  Ricky Nelson Dawson, age 54, of Autauga County, pled guilty today to a one-count felony information charging him with wire fraud arising out of his theft of approximately $6.2 million in checks payable to the federal government, U.S. Attorney George L. Beck, Jr., announced today.

According to court records, Dawson, a United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) employee, had served since 2000 as director of the Bay Minette and Camden offices of USDA’s Rural Development programs.  One of those programs was the Rural Utilities Service, which provided loans and grants to local water authorities and electric utilities (the “Authorities”).

Deatsville man sentenced to prison for abusing his twin boys

PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - An Elmore County man has been sentenced to prison for child abuse involving his two young sons.

An Autauga County Judge sentenced 22-year-old Mohamad Osman of Deatsville to serve 20 years in prison following his conviction on aggravated child abuse charges.

Authorities say the child abuse involved Osman's twin boys who were only one-year-old at the time of the reported abuse.

Due to the sensitive nature of the case, no additional details could be released.

PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - A former Montgomery Fire Fighter and Elmore County youth sports coach pleaded guilty to electronic solicitation of a child Wednesday morning in an Autauga County court.

According to authorities, John Montague pleaded guilty this morning to two counts of electronic solicitation. Montague originally turned himself in to the Elmore County Sheriff's Office back in October of 2011 after he was charged with harassment in Elmore County for allegedly kissing a 13-year-old girl and sending her inappropriate text messages. Documents state that police believe Montague used a cell phone to attempt to arrange meetings with a child under the age of 16 for sexual purposes at both Birmingham Southern University and Edgewood Academy back in September 2011.
