Two Montgomery men charged in Billingsley manhunt | Crime
BILLINGSLEY, AL (WSFA) - The Autauga County Sheriff's Office says they have arrested one Montgomery man and charged a second man in connection with a burglary spree in Chilton, Bullock and Autauga counties that led to a large scale manhunt in Billingsley.
On Wednesday, October 3, an off-duty Autauga County Sheriff's Deputy noticed a suspicious vehicle, a white Chevrolet 3500 pick-up truck at the U.S. Hwy. 82 Country Mart in Billingsley. The vehicle was possibly connected to several residences in Billingsley that had recently been burglarized - three men were inside the truck at the time.
The deputy approached the vehicle and noticed a large number of firearms and personal property in the truck and identified himself as a law enforcement official. A short struggle ensued and the three suspects fled the area on foot.
Multiple law enforcement agencies took part in an extensive ground and air search for the suspects but all three men were able to elude capture.
The vehicle was eventually identified as one stolen from Bullock County. Stolen property inside the truck was connected to several residential burglaries in Bullock, Chilton and Autauga counties. Fingerprints were recovered from that vehicle and the stolen property it contained. Based on those fingerprints, authorities were able to identify 20-year-old Edward Bell of Montgomery and 18-year-old Sendarius Savage of Montgomery as two of the three suspects who fled the scene in Billingsley.
Savage was arrested and is currently in custody at the Autauga County Metro Jail. Bell is being held at the Montgomery County Detention Facility on a robbery of a business strong arm arrest from Oct. 11 - charges for Bell are pending with the Autauga County Sheriff's Office. According to court records Bell was previously arrested and charged in a burglary incident off of Old McGehee Road earlier this year.
So far approximately $50,000 of stolen property has been recovered. Authorities are searching for at least one more suspect in connection with the Billingsley manhunt.
The Autauga County Sheriff's Office asks if anyone has additional information regarding these crimes to please contact the ACSO Secret Witness line at 361-2599 or the Criminal Investigations Division at 361-2525.
