Montgomery Fire Fighter hit with sex charges against child | Crime
PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - The Montgomery firefighter arrested last month for harassment of a child in Elmore County is facing additional charges in Autauga County.
According to court documents, 35-year-old John Montague was arrested Tuesday on two counts of Electronic Solicitation of a Child. Charges were not filed until Thursday.
Documents state that police believe Montague used a cell phone to attempt to arrange meetings with a child under the age of 16 for sexual purposes at both Birmingham Southern University and Edgewood Academy back in September.
Montague turned himself in to the Elmore County Sheriff's Office in October and was charged with harassment for allegedly kissing a 13-year-old girl and sending her inappropriate text messages. He was listed as a volunteer sports coach at the same private school the girl attended in Elmore County.
Montague was placed on administrative leave from the Montgomery Fire Department after the original charge surfaced in Elmore County pending an investigation into his conduct.
According to a representative with the City of Montgomery, the Office of City Investigations has completed its internal investigation and based on the report submitted, the initiating process to terminate Montague's employment is underway.
The city representative added that the termination procedure preserves Montague's right to due process and appeal, so it would be incorrect to say he has been terminated. Montague remains on administrative leave until the completion of the process.
