National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, which is observed annually on December 7th, is to remember and honor all those who died in the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The attack on Pearl Harbor began at 7:53 a.m. and the casualty list included 2,335 servicemen and women and 68 civilians. An additional 1,178 were wounded in the attack.

“Using the words of President Franklin Roosevelt, the bombing of Pearl Harbor is ‘a date which will live in infamy’,” stated Mayor Bill Gillespie, Jr.  “This action was the spark that led America to enter World War II and set forth a period of ‘unbounding determination’ for our people that ultimately led to triumph.  Please join me in honoring these heroes on Pearl Harbor Day.”

The City of Prattville will lower flags at all city facilities from sunrise to sunset on Friday, December 7th in honor of these heroes and their sacrifice to our nation.
